“This week, our international haijin guest is Neena Singh from India.”

    1.

    sleepless
    through the night…
    calls of wild geese

    नींद नहीं आती…
    रात भर जंगली हंसों
    की आवाज़ें

    nedormit
    toată noaptea –
    chemarea gâștelor sălbatice

    2.

    wildflowers bend –
    a passing train carries
    their scent away

    जंगली फूल झुके
    गुजरती ट्रेन उनकी खुशबू
    अपने साथ ले जाए

    reverența florilor sălbatice –
    un tren care trece cară
    mirosul lor departe

    3.

    childhood memories
    the north wind sways –
    an empty swing

    बचपन की यादें
    उत्तरी हवा झुलाए
    एक खाली झूला

    amintiri din copilărie –
    vântul de nord se leagănă
    un leagăn gol

    Heart Space

    silent walk
    her dog collar
    in my pocket

    H. Gene Murtha Memorial Senryu Contest 2024, Honorable Mention

The leash still hangs by the swing in the garden. its metal tag with her name clinks softly when the wind nudges it.

The walks are lonely now—no eager paws tapping against the floor, no warm nose nudging my hand. I still follow our usual path, but the collar stays curled in my pocket.

At the neighborhood park, the sun spills across the grass in long golden streaks. I imagine her beautiful form there, ears perked, eyes bright, nose to the ground, chasing shadows that no longer move.

I call her name once, softly. The breeze carries it away.

    first light…
    paw prints etched
    on the walkway

    Gravity of Thought

    quantum physics
    trying to wrap my head
    around dark matter

    by Neena Singh

    What is Dark Matter?

Unsolved problem in physics: Dark matter is a form of matter that doesn’t emit, absorb, or reflect light, making it invisible. Its presence is inferred through its gravitational effects on visible matter, such as galaxies and stars.

Proportion: It accounts for approximately 27% of the universe’s mass-energy content, compared to just 5% for normal (baryonic) matter.
