    Letting Go

Dogs are better than human beings because they know but do not tell.”
    ~ Emily Dickinson

On my evening walk to the Fragrance Garden, as I wait to cross the road, I see a black stray on the pavement also waiting. Continuous traffic, the blare of horns of cars, scooters, and auto-rickshaws is intimidating. During a break in the mayhem, I start to cross the road, the dog moves alongside me, and before we know it, we have reached the other side.

I enter the garden, the dog beside me. He trails, sniffing and wagging his tail as I take a round of the garden. I sit on the red bench under the banyan tree, he settles down at my feet. After ten minutes of deep breathing, I get up and start running toward the jogging path. He looks up and then flops down. The jogging strategy works. I have left the dog safe in the garden and burnt more calories than usual.
